Poipu Bay’s 210 oceanfront acres meander along rugged coastline featuring 85 bunkers, five water hazards and wildly varying trade winds, all of which combine to make the course one of the most intriguing and spectacular golf experiences in the U.S. The ocean-links style course includes over 30 acres of tropical plants and flowers, and pleasant distractions abound: panoramic vistas tempt you to stop and get utterly lost in the scenery; Hawaii’s endangered native nene geese frequent the links; and in winter months, humpback whales spout offshore. Your greatest challenge at Poipu Bay may be simply to keep your concentration on the game!

The golf course is home to a number of significant historical sites—cultural treasures that are protected and maintained by Poipu Bay staff. The course was designed around several ancient Hawaiian heiau (places of worship) and handmade stone walls, estimated to date back over 500 years. Golfers are forbidden to enter these culturally-sensitive areas or play balls from them. In ancient times, heiau were built specifically on sites deemed to have the most mana, a spiritual power that emanates from sacred places.

Entering its 14th year, the Drew Brees Celebrity Championship (formerly known as the Celebrity Classic hosted by Stan Humphries) will benefit the Brees Dream Foundation established in 2003 by Drew and Brittany Brees. The tournament returns May 18th – 20th, 2012 to a new location at La Costa Resort and Spa and will bring together over 50 of the best celebrity golfers in the world. This will be the 14th year of the event, formerly named the Celebrity Classic hosted by Stan Humphries.

Long recognized as one of the region’s premiere sports hospitality events, the Drew Brees Celebrity Championship will add to the appeal with a move to the newly renovated La Costa Resort and Spa. Featuring 400 lush garden acres, two championship golf courses, and recently renovated facilities, this move will enhance the luxury and golf experience for all tournament attendees.

The tournament consists a two day of Celeb-Am Tournament (May 18th -19th) and a 36-hole, celebrity only competition (May 19th – 20th) where the golfers will compete for a $100,000 purse and the coveted Drew Brees Celebrity Championship trophy.
